A world-class collaboration between Travel Communication and the German National Tourist Board showcased Germany’s commitment to sustainable tourism through art, technology, and storytelling.

When innovation meets sustainability and art, unforgettable stories are born. This autumn, we had the honor to bring Germany’s vision of sustainable tourism to life at the world’s largest video mapping event – iMapp Bucharest. Together with the German National Tourist Board (GNTB), we transformed one of the most iconic landmarks in Europe into a spectacular stage that celebrated creativity, responsibility, and the future of travel.

A Landmark Collaboration with the German Ministry of Tourism

At Travel Communication, we take pride in working with the most visionary tourism organizations worldwide. Our collaboration with the German National Tourist Board, under the authority of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, marks a new milestone in how destinations communicate sustainability, creativity, and innovation to global audiences.

As both a PR agency and Destination Management Company (DMC), we bring destinations to life. Our mission is to craft experiences that transcend traditional campaigns, resonate emotionally, and inspire travelers to explore more responsibly.

For this project, we created everything from the ground up – starting with the entire video concept and production projected on the Palace of the Parliament. We wanted every frame to reflect Germany’s story of sustainability and innovation, blending art, emotion, and technology into one breathtaking visual.

Beyond the projection, we designed and coordinated a dedicated Germany corner, a stylish space for socializing and media interaction. Here, we welcomed the most influential travel bloggers, vloggers, journalists, and key media representatives in Romania. Guests enjoyed authentic German beer, snacks, and pretzels, while exploring interactive VR experiences that allowed them to virtually travel through Germany’s most beautiful destinations – all perfectly aligned with our client’s vision and specifications.

We also took care of event branding, visual identity, and setup, creating an atmosphere that mirrored Germany’s premium yet welcoming spirit. From a red carpet photo area to branded décor and digital touchpoints, every detail was curated to turn the event into an unforgettable experience, one that celebrated both innovation and connection.

Germany at iMapp Bucharest 2024: A Global Premiere

For the first time, a destination country joined forces with iMapp Bucharest – Winners League 2024, one of the world’s top six 3D mapping competitions. On September 21, 2024, Germany’s story of sustainability and innovation illuminated the 23,000-square-meter façade of the Palace of Parliament, Europe’s largest administrative building.

Before a live audience of over 50,000 people and millions watching online, the projection showcased Germany’s breathtaking landscapes and iconic landmarks, inviting travelers to “Stay a Little Bit Longer” – the core message of the campaign.

The 2-minute, 30-second 3D film was created by a talented local video mapping team led by artist Tiberiu Irimia, blending cutting-edge technology, visual storytelling, and music to promote sustainable travel and longer stays.

How We Brought Germany’s Story to Life Through 3D Art and Technology

Germany’s participation at iMapp highlighted the country’s deep and long-standing commitment to sustainable tourism, and we wanted to bring that story to life in a way that felt both emotional and visually extraordinary. In the 3D video we crafted from scratch, we integrated all these concepts graphically, from Germany’s 14 certified sustainable travel destinations and 1,300+ eco-certified accommodations, to its 5,800 “Bed & Bike” facilities, 300,000 km of hiking trails, and 76,000 km of bike routes. We also showcased the country’s 16 national parks, 104 nature parks, and 16 UNESCO biosphere reserves, all seamlessly woven into a dynamic visual narrative that captured the essence of responsible travel. The projection embodied the spirit of iMapp’s 2024 theme, “Legacy”, celebrating how culture, art, and innovation can together leave a lasting positive mark on our planet.

A Worldwide Stage for Tourism Promotion

The exposure generated by Germany’s participation at iMapp was extraordinary.
From prime-time television broadcasts to viral social media clips, the campaign reached millions of viewers worldwide, positioning Germany as a leading destination for responsible, immersive travel experiences.

To further engage the Romanian public, the GNTB offered an exclusive prize: a round-trip flight and two-night stay in Berlin, inviting one lucky winner to discover firsthand the cultural vibrancy and sustainable spirit of Germany.
